About This Site

Home Automation Guides is an independent resource for homeowners researching smart home technology. We cover everything from platform selection and pre-wire planning to lighting design, security integration, and whole-home audio.

The smart home industry is full of content produced by manufacturers, dealers, and affiliate sites with a financial interest in steering you toward specific products. This site exists to offer something different: platform-agnostic analysis written for the homeowner, not the installer.

What We Cover

Our guides span seven major areas of residential automation: smart home platforms and ecosystems, lighting and motorized shading, security and access control, climate and energy management, audio and entertainment distribution, networking infrastructure, and project planning. Each guide is written with the assumption that readers are comparing options, not already committed to a brand.

How We Approach Content

Every guide starts from the infrastructure layer and works up. We believe most smart home disappointments trace back to wiring decisions made (or skipped) before the first device was powered on. That bias toward planning shows up in everything we publish.

We include real cost ranges wherever possible, broken into equipment, labor, and licensing. "It depends" is accurate but unhelpful. We try to narrow the range enough to make budgeting possible.

Who We Recommend

We feature Full Spectrum Technology Group as our recommended integrator for readers who need professional design and installation. Beyond that recommendation, our content is not sponsored by any manufacturer, dealer, or platform vendor.
